The Cardiac Rehabilitation programme is a supervised exercise programme delivered by a qualified Cardiac Rehabilitation professional – Andrew Burns BSc MSc.
Cardiac Rehabilitation is suitable for people who have suffered a cardiac event including Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction) bypass surgery, heart-valve surgery or stent insertion.
The purpose of cardiac rehabilitation is to do the following:
- Improve physical fitness levels
- Help restore confidence after a cardiac event
- Help prevent a further cardiac event
- Help people adopt healthy lifestyle changes
- Encourage return to work or normal activities of daily living
- Enhance quality of life
The programme structure continuously runs twice a week for six weeks and is delivered in line with the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR) guidelines. Classes run at scheduled times, both in the morning and evening depending on availability.
Please note to participate in this course you will need a completed referral form from your Doctor. Once we receive this referral form, we will confirm a start date based on which time slots you would like to attend – Please contact the arena clinic for documentation and class information.

The aim of the Corporate Wellness Programme is to empower our clients to take control of their Lifestyle and Physical Activity. We use our online platform Nudge Coach and a Fitbit to help you assess your lifestyle and then guide you to your goals step by step, encouraging you all the way through your transformation.
The relationship between coach and client can be a key factor in the success of any programme. In person and online contact with Andrew and his team will be ongoing throughout the duration of the programme to provide the best possible experience and to achieve the greatest results. Every week we will guide you through evidence based Health and Wellness topics and offer weekly recipe suggestions.
The Mardyke Arena UCC GP Exercise Referral Programme provides a safe pathway for people with various health problems to become more active and more healthy. It is a positive partnership between your G.P. and Mardyke Arena UCC. If you have not been active for a long time, we understand that you have concerns about your health or how to start being active.
The difference with this programme is that you will be exercising with people of similar abilities and ages, and a qualified exercise professional will be there to advise and encourage you throughout.
If you are over 18, currently inactive and interested in becoming more active, this programme may be for you!
If you suffer from one or more of the conditions below, and your doctor feels that increasing your activity levels will not put your medical condition at risk, this programme is ideal as it will offer a safe pathway to a healthier lifestyle.

- Stress or Anxiety
- Lung Disease
- Back Pain
You need to visit your GP to see if the programme is right for you. They will forward the referral form to the Referral Coordinator in the Mardyke Arena UCC.
Your coordinator will then contact you to arrange your first appointment at a time that suits you.
