The clinic, based at Mardyke Arena UCC continues to offer physiotherapy, specialist rehabilitation equipment, and a team of highly skilled physiotherapists. However, as a UPMC Sports Medicine Clinic, it is now part of an international sports medicine network dedicated to treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal and medical problems, speeding up recovery, restoring function and providing patients outcomes-driven care across all ages and activity levels.

Meet Our Physiotherapists

Joe Normoyle

MSc, BSc, Chartered Physiotherapist (MISCP), CORU registered

Joe qualified as a chartered physiotherapist in Edinburgh and has several years of experience working in both the public sector (NHS Scotland) and private sector. He moved back to Ireland in 2014 and has worked in private practice since then. Joe has a keen interest in all sports and has been working with various sports teams and individuals, from amateur to professional level. These include the Football Association of Ireland, Munster Rugby, Hearts FC, and the Scottish hockey team. Currently, Joe is head physiotherapist for Cork City F.C.

As part of his continuous professional development Joe trained as a certified Pilates instructor (through the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute, APPI). He is also a certified Acupuncturist (including dry needling), is certified through the Titliest Performance Institute for Golf and biomechanical assessment for orthotic prescription and is undertaking a diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine. Joe also guest lectures on the physiotherapy master’s course in UCC.

Joe has a special interest in ACL rehab and shoulder dysfunction. He works as part of the multidisciplinary team at UPMC Sports Medicine at the Mardyke Arena UCC and places a strong emphasis on combining manual therapy with functional rehabilitation and patient education.

Eileen Foyle

MSc, BSc, Chartered Physiotherapist (MISCP), CORU registered

Eileen graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Limerick in 2012. She emigrated to New Zealand shortly after where she worked primarily in private practice and continued to develop her skills until her return to Ireland in 2020. Eileen subsequently completed her MSc in Sports Performance through the University of Limerick, which further enhanced her interest in both athlete performance and injury prevention.

Eileen’s main areas of interest lie in sports injury and rehab, injury prevention and post-operative rehab. She utilises a combination of manual therapy, dry needling and exercise prescription to return her clients to their pre injury level. In addition to her clinic work, Eileen is the lead physio for Cork City F.C. Women and Bishopstown GAA club. Having grown up playing GAA and hockey, sport has been a mainstay in her life and Eileen hopes to continue to work with athletes of all ages for years to come.

Laura Meagher

BSc, PG Cert, Chartered Physiotherapist (MISCP), CORU registered

Laura qualified as a chartered physiotherapist in 2008 and has over a decade of experience working in both the public and private sectors in Christchurch, New Zealand. Laura returned to Ireland in 2022. She has experience in working across a wide variety of sports and has worked with both amateur and professional athletes. Laura has a particular interest in football injuries, change of direction sports, and strength and conditioning. She has worked at both a club football and national league level in New Zealand.

Laura is dry needling and manipulative therapy trained. She has completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in Auckland, New Zealand.

Laura has a special interest in ACL and multi-ligament knee rehabilitation and return to sport testing. She works as part of the multidisciplinary team at the UPMC Sports Medicine clinic at the Mardyke Arena UCC and places a strong emphasis on using goal focused rehabilitation to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Lorcan Kavanagh

MSc, BSc, Chartered Physiotherapist (MISCP), CORU Registered

Lorcan graduated from University College Dublin with an MSc in Physiotherapy in 2015. Prior to this, he completed a BSc in Sports Science and Health in DCU in 2010. He is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.

Lorcan has a broad range of experience working in private practice with people of all age groups as well as in elite and professional sport. He was a physiotherapist with the Kerry Senior football team from 2015-2018. He then moved into professional sport with the Munster Rugby Academy for 3 seasons between 2018 and 2021. More recently Lorcan worked as Academy Physio with Leinster Rugby before moving back to Cork to work in private practice.

Lorcan has a special interest in lower limb tendinopathy, athletic groin pain as well as shoulder pain but enjoys working with all populations to maximise function and health.
